The Fallen Empire

『The Fallen Empire』は、2006年3月24日に出た第3作である。ここで編成が崩れ始める。ヤニ・リーマタイネンは前年の2005年にギターを降りており、エンプ・ヴオリネンも2004年までで抜けていた。つまり本作は、デビュー作を作った二人のギタリストがどちらもいない最初のアルバムである。タアゲ・ライホの歌もこの一枚が最後になり、彼は同年に去った。 皮肉なことに、この盤を彼らの最高作に挙げる声は少なくない。あるファンは、後年の作品にこの盤の“The Lion”の一節が引用されているのを見て、なぜよりによって劣った曲にあの言葉を押し込んだのかと憤慨した。バンドにとって何が失われた基準だったかは、こういう反応の方がよく示している。

The Fallen Empire is the third album, released on 24 March 2006. This is where the line-up starts coming apart. Jani Liimatainen had left the guitar chair the previous year, in 2005, and Emppu Vuorinen had gone in 2004. So this is the first Altaria album without either of the guitarists who made the debut. It is also the last with Taage Laiho, who left the same year. Ironically, plenty of people call it their best. One fan, finding a line from its song "The Lion" quoted back in a much later record, was indignant that those words had been crammed into an inferior song when this album meant so much to him. Reactions like that say more about what standard the band had set than any description of the riffs could.
