Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich is the debut on which WARRANT foregrounded gorgeous melody and a light rock ’n’ roll feel. Jani Lane’s singing moves between mischief and pathos, greatly supporting the songs’ accessibility. Emerging from the Los Angeles glam-metal scene, it is the band’s vivid starting point.
On “Down Boys,” “Heaven” and “Sometimes She Cries,” energetic rock songs and ballads with a soft elation clearly show the band’s two sides. In particular, the ballad “Heaven” became a big hit that reached No. 2 on the U.S. chart. Songs like “32 Pennies” and “Big Talk” breathe an early, fresh appeal too. It keeps the heat of band playing while being catchy. It is a memorable record representative of late-1980s pop metal.
