LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
This is the record on which the band became something else. It was recorded between 27 November and 14 December 1986 at Music Lab in West Berlin, produced by the band with Harris Johns, and Noise Records released it in 1987. The line-up is unchanged — Snake, Piggy, Blacky, Away. What changed is the writing: this is generally named as the first album to put progressive rock inside their thrash. Piggy's chords avoid the third and are deliberately dissonant, and from here on that is the band's signature. The title track and "Ravenous Medicine" are fast, but the fastness is presented differently than before. Metres split part-way through and a theme returns in another shape. The subject matter of space and machinery becomes explicit here too. The seven tracks listed are the LP's; the CD and cassette add the single sides "Too Scared to Scream" and "Cockroaches", and the player on this page is that nine-track version.
