LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
High Stakes & Dangerous Men is UFO's thirteenth studio album, released in Britain by Essential! Records in February 1992 on CD, LP and cassette. Phil Mogg sang, and founder member Pete Way was back on bass, playing on a UFO record for the first time in ten years. The other two places went to musicians who had both come through Wild Horses: guitarist Laurence Archer, whose other bands included Grand Slam and Lautrec, and drummer Clive Edwards, who had also worked with Uli Jon Roth and Bernie Marsden. Neither of them played on another UFO album. Kit Woolven produced and engineered the record and shares the arranging credit with the band. The sessions were spread over five studios: Livehouse Studios in Cornwall, Studio 125 in Burgess Hill, Wessex Studios, Ezzee Studios and Black Barn Studios. The album was made for Razor Records, and Castle Communications is named as the owner of the recording. The songs are credited to Mogg with Archer and Way, and Edwards has a share in "Ain't Life Sweet". The twelve tracks run from "Borderline" to "Let the Good Time Roll". Victor released the Japanese edition on 21 March 1992, adding a 1992 version of "Long Gone" as a Japan-only bonus track 13, and in the United States the album came out on Griffin Music in 1995. The band took the record on tour, and its concert at Club Citta on 20 June 1992 was issued as the live album Lights Out in Tokyo. In the autumn of 1993 Mogg and Way regrouped with Michael Schenker and Paul Raymond, and the next studio album, Walk on Water, came out of that reunion.
