LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
Alongside Saint Vitus's debut, this is one of the two records named as the starting point of American doom metal. It was recorded in February 1984 at Track Record Studios in Los Angeles and released by Metal Blade Records that March as the 12-inch MBR 1019, with Eric Wagner on vocals, Bruce Franklin and Rick Wartell on guitars, Sean McAllister on bass and Jeff Olson on drums. It inherits Black Sabbath's slowness and weight, but the writing turns on two guitars trading lines, and the lyrics take their subjects from the Old Testament. The label marketed this as "white metal"; the band did not accept the term. The record was first called Trouble and was reissued under the same catalogue number as Psalm 9, which is the title it circulates under now. The running order here is the original's as printed.
