LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
Thin Lizzy's self-titled debut reached shops on 30 April 1971 through Decca, cut in London with Scott English and Nick Tauber sharing the production. The founding trio made it: Phil Lynott on bass and vocals, Eric Bell on guitar, Brian Downey on drums, moving between blues, folk and melodies with an Irish cast. What defines this 55th-anniversary set is Richard Whittaker's work. He remixed the whole album, and the New Day EP that followed in August 1971, from the original tapes. CD1 pairs a 2026 remaster with that new stereo mix. CD2 runs from the Irish debut single "The Farmer" and its B-side "I Need You" through the four New Day tracks, his mixes of them, and BBC sessions recorded for Stuart Henry and, on 12 October 1971, John Peel. CD3 is studio outtakes, among them the previously unreleased "Beggar's Song"; fifteen recordings across the set had never been issued before. An audio-only Blu-ray carries Dolby Atmos, 5.1 surround, stereo and an Atmos instrumental mix, and the label say this album had no Atmos version until now. A ten-inch rigid box holds a 40-page hardcover book written by Mojo's Mark Blake. The Japanese pressing, out on 10 July 2026 as UICY-80758, is a limited run that puts the three CDs on SHM-CD and adds Japanese versions of the English liner notes and the lyrics. Forty-seven tracks across the three discs.
