LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
The title is printed as rEVOLVEr, with the word EVOLVE in capitals between two lower-case r's. It says plainly that the band set out to change how they wrote. Alongside the familiar thrash metal — "No Compromise", "Sabotage", "Sweet Relief" — there is far more mid-paced riffing than on any earlier record, in "99" and "Burnt to a Shell", and two songs, "Abysmal" and "My Shadow", carry ballad elements inside them. There is a fair amount of clean singing too, though most of the vocals are still tracked in the band's usual hardcore and metalcore scream.
Peter Dolving came back to sing after two albums away and stayed until he left again in 2012. The rest of the band is Anders Bjorler on rhythm and lead guitar, Jonas Bjorler on bass and backing vocals, Patrik Jensen on rhythm guitar and Per Moller Jensen on drums.
Lou Koller of Sick of It All sings alongside Dolving on "Who Will Decide", and Barney Greenway of Napalm Death appears in the video for "No Compromise". A limited digipak came with different artwork and two bonus tracks at eleven and twelve, moving "My Shadow" to thirteen; the Japanese release adds "Out of Reach" as track nine. The running order here is the original's as printed.
