LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
This is the album on which a Brazilian band became known internationally. It was recorded between 15 and 28 December 1988 at Nas Nuvens Studio in Rio de Janeiro, in sessions that ran from eight at night to five in the morning, produced and engineered by Scott Burns. It is their first record for Roadrunner.
Burns took the job for a reduced fee because he wanted to visit Brazil, and brought with him drum equipment and Mesa Boogie amplifiers that were not obtainable there at the time. That is why it sounds so unlike the album before it. The budget began at eight thousand dollars and ended at nearly twice that.
The line-up is Max Cavalera on vocals and rhythm guitar, Igor Cavalera on drums, Andreas Kisser on lead guitar and Paulo Jr. on bass. The speed and the precision of the title track, "Inner Self" and "Mass Hypnosis" stand comparison with any American thrash of the same year. The running order here is the original's as printed.
