A-Lex

A-Lex came out on 23 January 2009 on SPV, and on Atração in Brazil. It was recorded through 2008 at Trama Studios in São Paulo and mixed at Mega Studios, produced by Stanley Soares with the band. It is the first album with Jean Dolabella, who took over the drums after Igor Cavalera left in 2006. Derrick Green sings, Andreas Kisser plays guitar and Paulo Jr. plays bass. The record is built on Anthony Burgess's 1962 novel A Clockwork Orange, and the title puts the name of its narrator, Alex, together with the Latin a lex, outside the law. Four of the eighteen songs — "A-Lex I" to "IV" — are instrumental interludes, "Ludwig Van" works from Beethoven's ninth symphony, and "Paradox" was written with Lucas Kater, who won a competition the band ran among their listeners. Eighteen songs, 54 minutes and 19 seconds. It reached number eighty-two in Germany, twenty-two on the British rock and metal chart and forty-eight on the American independent albums chart. The running order here is that of the SPV pressing.
