LANGUAGE
Changing singers is what turned this into the band's defining record. It was recorded in 1986 at Total Access Recording in Redondo Beach, California, and SST Records released the 12-inch, SST 082, that year. The original singer, Scott Reagers, left for personal reasons, and Scott "Wino" Weinrich — whom the band had met at D.C. Space in Washington — took over; the account is that Reagers asked him himself. Weinrich's voice is thicker and his phrasing heavier than his predecessor's, and it sits against the slow riffing entirely differently. The title track takes the idea of having been born into the wrong era and makes a song of it, and it is still named among the defining doom metal songs. Six tracks, thirty-four minutes thirty-six. The running order here is the original's as printed.
