LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
This record took nearly two years to get from the session to the shops. Dave Chandler has said it was recorded in 1982, over two nights at Total Access in Redondo Beach, cut live in the studio with no overdubs. What held it back was a lawsuit the label, SST, was involved in. It came out in 1984 as the 12-inch SST 022. SST was the hardcore punk label run by Black Flag's Greg Ginn, and a record this slow and this directly descended from Black Sabbath coming out of it was unusual at the time. It is said to have worked the other way round too, leaving a mark on Black Flag themselves. Five songs. It is often named, alongside Trouble's Psalm 9, as one of the first doom metal albums. The running order here is the original's as printed.
