Nothing Exceeds Like Excess

Raven's seventh full-length, self-produced and released by the American label Combat Records, and the first with Joe Hasselvander — formerly of Pentagram — on drums after Rob "Wacko" Hunter's departure. Hasselvander's arrival pushed the band back toward the speed-metal footing the Atlantic years had moved them off. Gallagher's own memory of the sessions is blunter: it was made on a shoestring after Hunter left. "Die For Allah" has an unusual origin. Gallagher told Songfacts that Mark sat down during the writing sessions and played the whole thing start to finish off the top of his head — roughly seven minutes of stream of consciousness — and that a tape recorder happened to be running.
