The Temple of the King: 1975-1976 is a nine-CD box set issued by Edsel Records on 27 March 2026 as EDSL0278. It gathers Rainbow's first two years into one place: from Ritchie Blackmore leaving Deep Purple and forming the band, through the second album and the first world tour.
CD1 is the 1975 debut, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, sung by Ronnie James Dio and played by the members of Elf, recorded at Musicland Studios in Munich between 20 February and 14 March 1975. CD2 is Rising from 1976, cut at the same studio but with a new band around Cozy Powell and Jimmy Bain — six songs, the last two of them past eight minutes.
CD3 through CD8 are three nights in Germany in September 1976: Cologne on the 25th, Düsseldorf on the 27th and Nürnberg on the 28th, each given two discs and kept close to complete. Recordings from this run have long been known in the edited form they took on the double live album On Stage; the label say this is the first time the concerts have been collected together outside Japan. The same songs vary night to night — 'Mistreated' around fifteen minutes, 'Stargazer' between fifteen and seventeen. The back half of CD8 adds four studio rehearsals for the world tour.
CD9 is rarities: mono and stereo single edits, rough mixes of all six songs from Rising, and a Bolivian mono mix of 'The Temple of the King', much of it on CD for the first time. Andy Pearce and Matt Wortham mastered the set anew, and a 24-page booklet sits inside seven-inch packaging.
