Alive in the Catacombs is a live acoustic EP recorded in the Catacombs of Paris on 8 July 2024. Matador Records put the film out on 5 June 2025 and the audio on 13 June, and a one-sided vinyl pressing limited to five thousand copies followed on 22 August.
The band are the first musical act to have played in the Catacombs with the city's permission, which came only after several refusals and the help of a Paris official.
Josh Homme sings; Troy Van Leeuwen plays acoustic guitar, synth and backing vocals, Dean Fertita synth and glockenspiel, Michael Shuman acoustic bass and backing vocals, and Jon Theodore percussion. A three-piece string section — Christelle Lassort Kiki, Bella June Bozic and Cecile Lacharme — plays with them, and chains and chopsticks stand in for percussion instruments. In the label's own words, "every song was recorded live in a complete take with no overdubs or edits". Mark Rankin produced and recorded it and Gavin Lurssen mastered it.
All five songs are older ones: two from Era Vulgaris and one each from In Times New Roman..., ...Like Clockwork, Villains and Lullabies to Paralyze, with "Running Joke" and "Paper Machete" run together to open. Thomas Rames directed the film, which went up on YouTube in December 2025 alongside Andreas Neumann's documentary Alive in Paris and Before. It reached number six on the UK Rock & Metal chart, and NME gave it four stars out of five, calling it starkly beautiful.
