LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
In the band's own description, Reverence was closely informed by a series of tragedies over the preceding years, among them the untimely loss of two loved ones. Winston McCall said the band realised how short and fragile life could be and took stock of what actually mattered. He called the album the most honest and personal record Parkway Drive had made, one born through pain, sacrifice and conviction.
It was produced by George Hadjichristou, the band's sound engineer of many years, and recorded at All Buttons In Recording Studio in Ottawa; the credits also list tracking at the Warehouse Studio. Hadjichristou plays piano and composed and arranged the strings with Greg Weeks, who plays cello, while Yolanda Bruno plays violin and Chady Awad sings backing vocals. Josh Wilbur mixed the album and Ted Jensen mastered it. The cover uses a painting by Peter Paul Rubens, Donny Phillips handled the package design and illustrations, and the track numbers are printed in Roman numerals. The band was Winston McCall on vocals, Jeff Ling and Luke Kilpatrick on guitars, Jia O'Connor on bass and Ben Gordon on drums.
"Wishing Wells" came first, in February 2018, with a video built on a close-up performance by McCall. The album was announced in March together with a video for "The Void" directed by Allan Hardy, and a video for "Prey", directed by Neal Walters, also appeared before the release. Reverence was released on 4 May 2018 through Resist Records in Australia and Epitaph Records elsewhere. It followed Ire to No. 1 on the ARIA albums chart, the band's second chart-topper there, and entered the Billboard 200 at No. 35. Later that year it won Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album at the ARIA Music Awards.
