LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
Host came out on 24 May 1999 as the band's first album for EMI Electrola, catalogue 7243 4 99947 2 0. The official biography the band published in March 1999 introduced it as their most adventurous work to date, fully embracing the electronics already present on One Second, and named 1980s music from Duran Duran to New Order among its influences.
Steve Lyon produced it. It was recorded at 262 Studios, Great Linford Manor and Haremere Hall, mixed by Lyon at Matrix Studios and mastered by Howie Weinberg at Masterdisk. Gregor Mackintosh plays keyboards and programs as well as playing guitar, and he and Audrey Riley arranged the strings. The video for the first single, "So Much Is Lost", was directed by Marcus Nispel and filmed at Universal Studios in California.
The Japanese edition came out first, on 28 April 1999, as TOCP-65202, with two other versions of "So Much Is Lost" and "Languish" added for sixteen tracks. The track list here is the original thirteen, and the player on this page carries the same thirteen. A remastered edition with recoloured artwork followed on 16 March 2018.
