W.F.O.

W.F.O., the seventh album, came out on Atlantic in July 1994 as 82630-2. The band produced it themselves, recording and mixing at Ambient Recording Co. in Stamford, Connecticut, in April and May that year, with the same five-piece as the previous album. The title is a set of initials, which the band's own site of 2001 spelled out as "Wide Fuckin' Open". It has been described as a return to fast thrash after the Black Sabbath-leaning weight of I Hear Black. Ellsworth wrote "Gasoline Dream" while the album was being written: stuck on a song in his 8-track studio, he fell asleep with the television on, woke up and wrote it in seven minutes. Index 98 of the CD holds a hidden track that is not on the sleeve, with playful snatches of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Jimi Hendrix; it is not on the streaming version. It is the last album the band made for Atlantic; the live Wrecking Your Neck came out on CMC in 1995, and Ellsworth later called the parting from the label the best thing that ever happened. The Japanese edition (AMCY-736) came out on 25 August 1994. The running order here is the original's as printed.
