I Hear Black

I Hear Black, the sixth album, came out on Atlantic in March 1993 as 7 82476-2. It left the joint Megaforce Worldwide credit behind and was the first album Atlantic released on its own. Alex Perialas produced it with the band at Pyramid Sound in Ithaca, New York. Tim Mallare takes over on drums, and would stay until 2005. It has been described as moving further toward an epic, Black Sabbath-like style, and its songs lean on weight and slowness. "Ghost Dance" is an instrumental. In a 2012 interview Ellsworth said the songwriting time had been very short, and that with more of it they could have worked the songs harder. It entered the Billboard 200 at number 122 on the chart dated 27 March 1993 and stayed two weeks, the band's highest placing of the eighties and nineties. The Japanese edition (AMCY-521) came out on 25 April 1993 with "Killogy" added as track twelve. Spotify gives the opener as "Dreaming in Columbia". The running order here is the original's as printed.
