Mötley Crüe is a self-titled work on which MÖTLEY CRÜE, welcoming a new vocalist, shifted their weight from past flamboyance toward heavy riffs and hard groove. The sound image is thick and compressed, and each song pushes out a simple frame with insistent rhythm. It is a distinctive record made welcoming John Corabi as the new vocalist in place of Vince Neil.
On “Hooligan's Holiday,” “Misunderstood” and “'Til Death Do Us Part,” the rough voice and low-chugged guitar draw out the band’s dangerous allure in a different form. Songs like “Uncle Jack,” “Loveshine” and “Smoke the Sky” breathe the band’s full playing too. Rather than a re-run of the huge hits, it takes in the heavy feel of the mid-1990s head-on. Distinctive though it is, it is a record with strong persuasiveness of playing.
