Chapter 2: The Early Days: A Fated Encounter and the Convergence of the "Europe" Connection (2002–2003)

2.1 Origins of the Project

The formation of LAD started as a project with a clear intention rather than a spontaneous band formation. At the time, Mikael Erlandsson, who had released acclaimed albums such as "The 1" (1994) as a solo artist and established a reputation as the "Bryan Adams of Sweden," was searching for an opportunity to express his musicality in a more hard rock-oriented format. Meanwhile, guitarist Andy Malecek, who had left the popular German band Fair Warning, was also looking for a new partner to utilize his lyrical guitar playing.

It is said that the proposal from a Japanese record company (Marquee Inc. / Avalon Label) brought the talents of these two together. The collaboration between the two, who boasted immense popularity in the Japanese AOR/hard rock market, was an ideal combination both commercially and musically. Mikael and Andy exchanged demo tapes and immediately felt confident in their musical compatibility.

2.2 Participation of "Europe" Members and the Birth of a Supergroup

To elevate the project into a full-fledged band format, Mikael utilized his personal network to contact members of Europe, one of Sweden's most iconic bands. At the time, Europe was on hiatus, and each member was pursuing individual activities. Chapter 3: The Second Phase: Rebuilding the Band via the Talisman Connection (2004–2005)

3.1 Europe's Reunion and the Departure of Members

Although LAD seemed to be sailing smoothly following the success of their debut album, major news shook the music scene in late 2003: the reunion of the original members of Europe. As a result, John Levén, Ian Haugland, and Mic Michaeli were forced to prioritize returning to their own band, making their departure from LAD inevitable.

Despite losing the rhythm section and keyboardist—the very backbone of the band—all at once, Mikael and Andy maintained their strong desire to continue the project. Of particular note was their performance at the "United Forces of Rock" festival held in Ludwigsburg, Germany, on September 30, 2007. They shared the stage with melodic rock legends such as Joe Lynn Turner, Stan Bush, and Danger Danger, and their performance was later released as the live album "Live In Germany 2007." Through these live activities, LAD established its status as a tangible rock band rather than just a project.

Chapter 5: Tragedy and Transition: The Death of Marcel Jacob (2009)

Released in Japan in late 2008 and in Europe in early 2009, the 6th album "Dreamcatcher" became the final peaceful work before a major turning point for the band.

His death put the band on the brink of disbandment, but the remaining members chose to "honor Marcel's legacy and continue playing music."

Chapter 6: Rebirth and a New Period of Stability: The Addition of Nalle Påhlsson (2010–2013)

6.1 The Joining of New Bassist Nalle Påhlsson

The person chosen to succeed Marcel was Nalle Påhlsson, a talented Swedish bassist known for his work in Treat and Therion, and a close ally of Jamie Borger. Although Nalle was a different type of bassist than Marcel, he supported the band's bottom line with solid and melodic playing, contributing significantly to the rebirth of the wounded band.

The band under the new structure engaged in energetic creative activities, as if to shake off the sadness. In 2010, they released two albums in rapid succession: "A Touch Of Heaven," dedicated to the late Marcel, followed by "Yes."

• "Yes" (2010): Thanks to an enhanced lineup of producers, clear and atmospheric sound production was achieved. Featuring tracks like "I've Fallen Into You" and a cover of Michael Bolton's "Fool's Game," it received high praise, being described as "AOR Heaven."

6.3 Collaborations with Guests and Monumental Works

In the 2011 album "Nine Lives," new attempts were made, such as featuring Jeff Scott Soto as a guest vocalist on "The Last To Know" and a duet with Jenny Redenkvist on "Angel Eyes." In addition, their 10th album in 2012, "Ten Tangerine Tales," celebrated the milestone of their tenth release while infusing a sense of playfulness into the title.

Chapter 7: Period of Transformation: The Departure of Andy Malecek and the Evolution of the Band (2014–2018)

7.1 Departure of the Original Guitarist

In 2014, Andy Malecek, a core member since the band's formation who held half of LAD's sonic identity, left the band. The reason was cited as personal circumstances, and while it was an amicable parting, it represented another major loss for fans following the death of Marcel.
