It was not issued on its own in Japan: "Halflife", "Trance Awake", "Hyperfast" and "Stars" appeared as bonus tracks on the Japanese edition of Unleashed Memories (Victor Entertainment, VICP-61322) in 2001, and King Records put both EPs on one disc, The EP's (KICP-1611), in 2012. In 2025 Brutal Planet remastered both EPs onto one CD, The EPs (BRUA16782).
LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
Marco Biazzi joined as second guitarist in January 1999, making Lacuna Coil a six-piece. In January 2000 the six went into Damage Inc. Studios in Ventimiglia, on the Ligurian coast, to record a new EP with Waldemar Sorychta; Dario Mollo recorded the sessions, and Sorychta produced and mixed them. In the band's own account this was their first attempt at digital techniques, at Italian lyrics and at a cover version, and their early website introduced it as "the italian mini ep". "Senzafine" is sung entirely in Italian. The two-minute "Trance Awake" has no lyrics; drummer Cristiano Mozzati wrote it with Marco Coti Zelati, and the two of them also handled the programming on the EP. Biazzi shares the writing credit on "Hyperfast". The closing "Stars" is a cover of the British group Dubstar, written by Steve Hillier. On their lyrics page the band gave each song a one-line note: the title track is about never managing to savour everything life offers, "Senzafine" about a destiny that is already written, "Stars" about something you can see but never reach. The EP came out in March 2000, and in April the band set off on its first headlining tour of Europe, thirteen shows including the UK and Ireland, with London sold out. "Senzafine" was re-recorded for Unleashed Memories the following year, and the American edition of that album added all five songs of Halflife. In 2005 Century Media reissued Halflife together with the first EP.
