LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
This is the eleventh studio album, released by Epic on 14 March 2006 as 82876 76755 2, thirteen tracks; the Japanese edition, EICP-610, followed on 24 March. Recording began around September 2005 and the title was announced on 2 February 2006.
The liner notes carry Satriani's own account of how each track came about. The closer, Crowd Chant, was originally called Party on the Enterprise and was to use sampled sounds of the starship Enterprise from Star Trek; he explained on a podcast before release that the rights could not be cleared, so he replaced them with his own sounds and renamed the track. Its closing theme was inspired by Gabriel Faure's Pavane in F-sharp minor, Op. 50.
The song went on to become a fixture at American football and ice hockey games, best known as a goal song for the Minnesota Wild and the New York Islanders, and it appears in the 2009 game NHL 2K10. The title track makes prominent use of the Electro-Harmonix POG, a polyphonic octave generator. The album was nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the 2007 Grammy Awards, Satriani's thirteenth nomination. The running order here is the import CD's as printed.
