In the history of Heavy Metal, the movement that emerged in Sweden in the early 1990s, particularly in Gothenburg, was a revolutionary phenomenon that fundamentally overturned the grammar of extreme music. At the center of this movement were At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity, and IN FLAMES. In 1990, in Gothenburg, Sweden, Jesper Strömblad, who was then the bassist for the death metal band Ceremonial Oath, launched IN FLAMES as a side project to pursue more melodic music.
