Quantum Leap

Quantum Leap is Gus G.'s fourth solo album, arriving about three years after Fearless. King Records released it in Japan on 6 October 2021 and AFM Records everywhere else on 8 October, so Japan had it two days early. Where his earlier solo records were built around singers, this is the first to consist of guitar instrumentals from start to finish. Gus G. wrote all of it; on the studio disc Dennis Ward plays bass and Vincent Velazco drums, with Strutter adding keyboards to "Enigma of Life" and "Night Driver". The closing "Force Majeure" is the one duet, with Vinnie Moore, and it had already been released as a single in September 2018. The second disc, Live in Budapest 2018, carries seven songs from a show in the Hungarian capital, drawn mostly from Fearless and including Thin Lizzy's "Cold Sweat". The band that night was a trio: Gus G. with Dennis Ward on bass and Johan Nunez on drums. Between "Force Majeure" in 2018 and "Not Forgotten" in 2023, AFM Records put out eight official videos for songs from this album — an unusual amount of film for a record without a vocal, and a sign of how much of its appeal lies in watching the guitar being played.
