Liner Notes
L'Enfant Sauvage is Gojira's fifth album, on which they reconciled philosophical depth with overwhelming weight through low-end riffs and odd-metered drive. It is their first album on the major label Roadrunner, and the breakthrough on which the band reached a wide audience. The title means "The Wild Child," inspired by François Truffaut's film of the same name. The film's image of a feral child belonging to no society overlaps with the album's themes of freedom and individuality.
Powerful songs like "L'Enfant Sauvage," "Explosia" and "The Gift of Guilt" line up. While keeping their usual complexity and weight, they stepped into clearer, more forceful song construction. The album charted high in countries including the US and France, and was highly praised critically. A record announcing the start of their mature period, splendidly balancing heaviness with accessibility. The songs are more compact, yet Mario's flawless drumming and the appeal of their surging riffs are in no way diminished. With this success, they moved into the metal mainstream. From then on, their name became a fixture at festivals around the world.
