Agent Provocateur is the fifth album, on which Foreigner balanced hard rock songs and big ballads, centered on Mick Jones's meticulous songwriting and Lou Gramm's powerful singing. It was made with the lineup of Jones, Gramm, Rick Wills (bass) and Dennis Elliott (drums). The placement of guitar, keyboards and choruses is refined, but at the center of the songs there is always the band's drive.
The grandeur of "I Want to Know What Love Is" is famous, but songs like "That Was Yesterday" also have melodic strength. The former, featuring a gospel choir, reached number 1 in both the US and the UK, becoming the band's biggest hit. The album also topped the album charts in the UK and Germany. A record that splendidly balanced pop scale and the tension of a rock band.
