Between Heaven and Hell is an early work on which FIREWIND energetically sounded orthodox power metal with sharp guitar riffs, fast drums and soaring vocals. The songs are youthful, but there is already a sure sense in the construction of the melody. Centered on guitarist Gus G., it is the vivid debut of the band from Greece.
On “Between Heaven and Hell,” “Warrior” and “Destination Forever,” the combination of technical guitar and memorable choruses advances the album. The soaring voice of then-vocalist Stephen Fredrick is also impressive. A cover of the Scorpions’ “Pictured Life” is also included. Songs like “World of Conflict” and “I Will Fight Alone” breathe an early, fresh appeal too. It is an important record for knowing the heat and drive at FIREWIND’s origin.
