Liner Notes

Don’t Look Back presents the immense guitar sound and crystalline vocal harmonies that BOSTON established on its debut in a shorter, more tightly focused form. Tom Scholz’s layered guitar work does more than create size; it gives each section momentum, sheen and lift. Brad Delp’s soaring voice cuts through that wall of sound while preserving a real sense of warmth, allowing even the most uplifting melodies to retain a human, slightly wistful quality. The title track joins a fast-moving riff to an immediately opening chorus, while “It’s Easy” and “Feelin’ Satisfied” foreground the band’s buoyant rock-and-roll spirit. “A Man I’ll Never Be,” by contrast, begins from piano and voice before building its emotional intensity, and the placement of “The Journey” helps the sequence breathe. The album may be compact, but the layering and melodic movement are dense. It is a finely polished studio creation whose hooks never lose their simplicity: a clear demonstration of the craftsmanship that made late-1970s American hard rock feel both monumental and inviting.
