1919 Eternal

1919 Eternal is a work on which BLACK LABEL SOCIETY bound Zakk Wylde’s huge guitar riffs to a bluesy, shadowed melodic sense. The “1919” of the title derives from the year Zakk’s father was born, and it is a record carrying feelings for his late father. The heavy groove does not waver, but acoustic passages and lyrical phrases create a depth beyond mere brute force. On “Bleed for Me,” “Lords of Destruction,” “Demise of Sanity” and “Battering Ram,” aggressive riffs and heavy groove generate overwhelming force. Songs like “Life / Birth / Blood / Doom” and “Graveyard Disciples” breathe a doom-like weight too. The contrast of aggressive and introspective songs gives the whole album great undulation.
