LINER NOTES

It was recorded in April and May 2007 at the Basement Studios with Jamie King producing. Although it is divided into eight tracks, transitions run between the parts and the whole thing plays as one long piece. The band themselves called it "adult contemporary progressive death metal".
It sold 12,600 copies in its first week and reached number 57 on the Billboard 200, the first time the band had been inside the top hundred there. Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, one of their main influences, named it his favourite album of the year. PopMatters wrote, "A true marvel, this challenging but ultimately highly rewarding album is an example of a young band just discovering what it's capable of. At the rate they're going, the modern metal pantheon awaits," and Ultimate Guitar named it best album of the year.
Dave Donnelly of AllMusic called the record "an anomaly on the otherwise more conservative, pop-punk and hardcore oriented Victory Records label", noting that the band "play a progressive style of extreme metal" drawing on a wide range of styles. A live DVD, Colors Live, followed on 14 October 2008, with footage from a Nashville show that August. The running order here is the original's as printed.
