Liner Notes
Reflections is a work on which APOCALYPTICA placed the cello’s resonance at the center of riffs and melody, layering heavy rhythm and classical tension. Without relying on vocals, they create a strong narrative quality with the change of the strings’ tone and the undulation of the songs alone. Welcoming Slayer’s Dave Lombardo on drums, it is a record that stepped into a heavier, more aggressive sound.
On “No Education,” “Somewhere Around Nothing” and “Resurrection,” from delicate scenes to hard attack, the cello shows varied expression. Songs like “Faraway,” “Drive” and “Pandemonium” breathe the band’s full playing too. With the addition of powerful drums, the band’s sound became even more physical. It is an original record that further widened the band’s own conception.
