『Facemelter』は、長い活動休止を経て発表された、Y&Tがブルージーなギター、骨太なリズム、率直なヴォーカルでクラシック・ハード・ロックを鳴らした久々のスタジオ作品だ。曲は余計に飾らず、リフの感触とバンドのグルーヴをそのまま前へ押し出すことで、長年培ってきた確かな説得力を感じさせる。デイヴ・メニケッティの歌とギターは健在で、円熟しながらも変わらぬ熱を保っている。 “On With The Show”“Shine On”“I'm Coming Home”“Blind Patriot”といった楽曲では、技巧を誇示するよりも、バンドの一体感とロックンロールの生々しい手触りが前面に出ている。“How Long”“Wild Child”“One Life”のような楽曲にも、バンドのメロディ・センスと確かな演奏力が息づいている。約13年ぶりのスタジオ・アルバムとなった本作は、バンドが健在であることを高らかに証明した。“I Want Your Money”“Gonna Go Blind”“Don't Bring Me Down”といった楽曲にも、往年のエネルギーが息づいている。派手な流行とは無縁の、実直で骨太なハード・ロックを鳴らし切った本作は、長いキャリアを経てなおライヴ・バンドとしての魅力を失わないY&Tの姿を、鮮やかに映し出した一枚である。

Facemelter is a long-awaited studio work, released after a long hiatus, on which Y&T played classic hard rock with bluesy guitar, sturdy rhythm and candid vocals. The songs are unadorned, pushing the feel of the riffs and the band’s groove forward directly, conveying a firm persuasiveness cultivated over years. Dave Meniketti’s singing and guitar are intact, keeping an unchanged heat even as they mature. On “On With The Show,” “Shine On,” “I'm Coming Home” and “Blind Patriot,” the band’s cohesion and the raw feel of rock ’n’ roll come to the front rather than showing off technique. Songs like “How Long,” “Wild Child” and “One Life” breathe the band’s melodic sense and firm musicianship too. Playing through earnest, sturdy hard rock with no connection to flashy trends, it vividly reflects a Y&T that, even after a long career, has not lost its appeal as a live band.
