『Apex』は、W.E.T.がAORの滑らかさ、ハード・ロックの押し出し、北欧的な透明感を兼ね備えたメロディック・ロックを軸に磨き上げた2025年3月28日発表の第5作だ。前作から5年、デビューからは16年が過ぎていた。ギターは太く鳴るが、曲の主役はあくまで歌とコーラスで、サビへ向けた上昇感が明快だ。プロデュースは今回もエリック・モーテンソン。 そしてこの作品で初めて、頭文字のTが二重に満たされる。TALISMANのドラマー、ジェイミー・ボルガーが加わったのだ。ロバート・セールとアンドレアス・パスマルクがワーク・オブ・アート、モーテンソンとマグヌス・ヘンリクソンがエクリプス、ソートとボルガーがTALISMAN。名の由来がようやく全て揃った編成である。“What Are We Fighting For”では、ソートとモーテンソンが交互にリードを取る。歌い手が二人いるという事実を、クイーンやスタイクス、ジャーニー、イーグルスのように活かしたのだとソートは語った。情感豊かなヴォーカルが楽曲を大きく包み込み、タイトルどおり頂点へ向かうドラマを作る。メロディック・ハードの理想形を丁寧に磨いた、安定感と熱量の高い一枚である。

Apex, released on 28 March 2025, is the fifth album, honed around melodic rock that holds AOR smoothness, hard rock push and a Nordic clarity together. Five years had passed since the last record, sixteen since the debut. The guitars ring thick, but the songs belong to the voice and the choruses, and the climb toward each hook is unmistakable. Erik Mårtensson produced once again. And here, for the first time, the T of the name is doubly satisfied: Talisman's drummer Jamie Borger joined. Robert Säll and Andreas Passmark from Work of Art, Mårtensson and Magnus Henriksson from Eclipse, Soto and Borger from Talisman — at last a line-up in which every letter of the name is fully accounted for. On “What Are We Fighting For,” Soto and Mårtensson trade lead vocals; Soto said they were making use of the fact that the band has two singers, the way Queen, Styx, Journey and the Eagles did. An expressive voice wraps the songs whole and builds, as the title says, a drama climbing to a summit.
