『Sweet Trade』は、THE POODLESが伸びやかなヴォーカル、きらめく鍵盤、歯切れのよいギターを明快な曲作りへまとめた2007年9月28日発表の第2作だ。35曲の候補から12曲が選ばれた。曲は大きく開けたコーラスを持ち、聴き手を自然に持ち上げる。スウェーデン、欧州全域、ロシア、日本で発売され、母国ではトップ10に入っている。前年からの100本を超えるライヴと、ハンマーフォールおよびクロークスとの35日間で18か国31公演という強行軍が、その土台にあった。 冒頭の“Flesh and Blood”をはじめ、楽曲はロマンティックなメロディと力強いリズムを両立する。先行シングル“Seven Seas”はサムエル、ヨナス・レインゴールドと、俳優ピーテル・ストールマーレの共作という異色の一曲。続く“Streets of Fire”はダブル・プラチナへ届き、当時のバンド最大のヒットとなった。発表後はゴットハードとの欧州ツアー、続いて17公演を完売させる単独ツアーへ。2008年には二度目のメロディフェスティバーレンにE-Typeと組んだ“Line of Fire”で臨み、さらに北京五輪のスウェーデン公式応援歌“Raise the Banner”を任された。スカンジナヴィアらしい洗練を、親しみやすく鳴らした一枚である。

Sweet Trade, released on 28 September 2007, is the second album, on which The Poodles gathered soaring vocals, shimmering keys and crisp guitars into clear songwriting. Twelve tracks were chosen from 35 candidates. The songs carry wide-open choruses that lift the listener naturally. Released in Sweden, across Europe, in Russia and Japan, it reached the Top Ten at home. Beneath it lay over a hundred shows the previous year and a forced march with HammerFall and Krokus — 31 shows in 18 countries in 35 days. From the opening “Flesh and Blood,” the songs balance romantic melody with powerful rhythm. The advance single “Seven Seas” is an unusual piece, co-written by Samuel, Jonas Reingold and the actor Peter Stormare. “Streets of Fire” went double platinum, the band's biggest hit at the time. After release came a European tour with Gotthard, then a headline run of 17 sold-out shows. In 2008 they returned to Melodifestivalen with “Line of Fire” alongside E-Type, and were handed “Raise the Banner,” Sweden's official song for the Beijing Olympics. Scandinavian polish, played approachably.
