『Everblack』は、高速ブラストと鋭利なリフで、THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDERの凶暴かつメロディックなデス・メタルを突き詰めた第6作だ。ドラムにアラン・キャシディ、ベースにマックス・ラヴェルを迎えた新体制で臨み、より暗く重厚な世界観を全面に押し出している。ジャケットは著名なアーティスト、ニック・ケラーが手掛けた。バンド名の由来となったブラック・ダリア事件を題材にした冒頭曲から、一貫してホラーを主題とするストルナドの歌詞が全編を貫いている。全米ビルボード200では33位を記録し、バンドの人気の高まりを裏付けた。 冒頭の“In Hell Is Where She Waits for Me”は、荘厳な葬送を思わせる序奏から凶暴な本編へと雪崩れ込む代表曲だ。“Goat of Departure”のキャッチーな疾走感、“Into the Everblack”のブラック・メタル的な冷気、“Map of Scars”のドラマ性まで、粒立った楽曲が続く。トレヴァー・ストルナドの多彩な咆哮と、キャシディの正確無比なドラミングが一体となり、バンドの攻撃性を新たな高みへと導いた。円熟期の到来を告げる、充実の一枚である。

Everblack is The Black Dahlia Murder's sixth album, on which they pushed their ferocious yet melodic death metal to the limit with high-speed blasts and incisive riffs. Made under a new lineup with drummer Alan Cassidy and bassist Max Lavelle, it foregrounds a darker, weightier world. The cover was handled by renowned artist Nick Keller. From an opening song drawing on the Black Dahlia murder that gave the band its name, Strnad's consistently horror-themed lyrics run throughout. It reached No. 33 on the US Billboard 200, underscoring the band's rising popularity. The opener "In Hell Is Where She Waits for Me," which cascades from a solemn, funereal intro into a ferocious main body, is a signature song. From the catchy drive of "Goat of Departure" and the black-metal chill of "Into the Everblack" to the drama of "Map of Scars," distinct songs continue. Trevor Strnad's varied roars and Cassidy's flawlessly precise drumming act as one, leading the band's aggression to a new height. It is an accomplished record announcing the arrival of their mature period.
