Different Worlds

『Different Worlds』は、フロンティアーズの代表セラフィーノ・ペルジーノが一人の声に惚れ込んだところから始まった作品である。相手はブラジルのエレクトリック・モブで歌うレナン・ゾンタ。80年代のクラシック・ハード・ロックを愛する彼を、その時代の怪物たちと組ませたら面白いのではないか——ペルジーノはそう考え、ゾンタの音源を各所へ送った。返ってきた答えは一致していた。こうしてナイト・レンジャーのブラッド・ギリス(ギター)、ミスター・ビッグのビリー・シーン(ベース)、ジャイアントのデイヴィッド・ハフ(ドラム)が集まる。2022年5月13日の発表である。 バンド名は、訓練によって身につけた、物事を巧くこなす能力を指す言葉だ。名乗りとしては不遜だが、この顔ぶれなら多少の虚勢も許されるだろう。曲を書いたのはアレッサンドロ・デル・ヴェッキオ、ゾンタ本人、マーティン・イェプセン・アンデルセン、ピート・アルペンボリといったフロンティアーズの書き手たちで、デル・ヴェッキオは鍵盤とプロデュースも兼ねた。先行シングルは“Stop the World”、続くバラード“Just When I Needed You”にもヴィデオが付いている。技巧は全編に溢れているが、主役はあくまでゾンタの声だ。

Different Worlds began with Frontiers president Serafino Perugino falling for a voice. It belonged to Renan Zonta, the Brazilian who sings in Electric Mob. Knowing how much Zonta loves classic 1980s hard rock, Perugino thought it might be interesting to put him with the monsters of that era, and sent clips of him around. The answers came back unanimous. So Brad Gillis of Night Ranger (guitar), Billy Sheehan of Mr. Big (bass) and David Huff of Giant (drums) gathered. It appeared on 13 May 2022. The band's name means an ability you have because you practised it. As a boast it is cheeky, but with this line-up a little bravado is probably in order. The songs came from the Frontiers writing pool — Alessandro Del Vecchio, Zonta himself, Martin Jepsen Andersen, Pete Alpenborg and others — with Del Vecchio also on keyboards and production. “Stop the World” led as the single, and the ballad “Just When I Needed You” followed with a video of its own. Technique spills out everywhere, but the voice is what this record is for.
