『Unbreakable』は、PRIMAL FEARが、硬質なリフ、スピード感のある力強いリズム、そして力強いハイトーン・ヴォーカルを、前面に押し出した、まさにタイトルどおりの、充実のパワー・メタル作品だ。約3年ぶりのスタジオ作となった本作は、バンドの、揺るぎない強靭さを、改めて力強く示している。楽曲は、迷いなく前へと進んでいくが、そのサビには、常に、明快で覚えやすいメロディがあり、決して、単なる力押しだけには終わらない。円熟した安定感が光る一枚だ。 冒頭のイントロから“Strike”へと至る展開、そして、シリアスな“Bad Guys Wear Black”、さらに、メタルへの誇りを歌った“Metal Nation”まで、収録曲は、いずれも聴き応えがある。“Unbreakable”“Give 'Em Hell”のような曲も、作品の充実を伝えている。重いミドルテンポの楽曲から、疾走する速い曲まで、その演奏は、常に、確かに引き締まっており、バンドの、あの屈強さを、力強く感じさせる。 正統派メタルならではの、あの闘争心と、確かな高揚感とを求める聴き手に、これ以上なく最適な一枚だ。長いキャリアを経てもなお、その演奏力と、ソングライティングは、少しも衰えていない。ラルフ・シーパースの、あの圧倒的な歌唱力も、全開である。PRIMAL FEARの、揺るぎない強さと、その円熟とを示した、力強く聴き応えのある充実作と言える。バンドの一貫した魅力が光る一枚だ。

Unbreakable is a fulfilling power-metal work, true to its title, on which Primal Fear foregrounds hard riffs, speed-filled powerful rhythm and powerful high vocals. This studio work, after about three years, again powerfully shows the band’s unshakable toughness. The songs proceed forward without hesitation, yet their choruses always have clear, memorable melody, by no means ending as merely simple power. A record where mature steadiness shines. From the development from the opening intro to “Strike” and the serious “Bad Guys Wear Black” to “Metal Nation,” singing of pride in metal, every song is engaging, while cuts like “Unbreakable” and “Give ’Em Hell” convey the work’s fullness. From heavy mid-tempo songs to speeding fast songs, the playing is always surely tight, powerfully evoking the band’s toughness. A record most suited to listeners seeking the fighting spirit and sure lift particular to traditional metal. Even after a long career, its playing and songwriting have not dimmed in the least. Ralf Scheepers’s overwhelming singing is also in full bloom. A powerful, engaging, fulfilling work showing Primal Fear’s unshakable strength and its maturity — a record where the band’s consistent appeal shines.
