All Rise

『All Rise』は、PERFECT PLANが2018年4月20日にフロンティアーズから出したデビュー作である。バンドは2014年、スウェーデン北部の街エルンシェルツヴィークで結成された。歌のケント・ヒッリ、ギターのロルフ・ノルドストレム、ベースのP-O・セディーン、鍵盤のレイフ・エーリン、ドラムのフレドリック・フォシュベリという5人組で、全員がすでに経験を積んだ演奏者だった。順番に注意したい。録音が終わったのは2017年2月で、契約はその後に来ている。つまり彼らは、誰の後押しもない状態で一枚を完成させてから世に出た。 名前を広めたのは2曲目“In and Out of Love”だ。先行シングルとして公開されるや、ヒッリの声は一夜にして国際的な話題になった。“Bad City Woman”の軽快な幕開けに続き、“Stone Cold Lover”と“Gone Too Far”はギターとハモンドがぶつかる重めの入りを持つ。“What Goes Around”“Too Late”のサビ、“1985”という題そのものの一曲を経て、“Heaven in Your Eyes”で全11曲が閉じる。評者が引き合いに出したのはサヴァイヴァー、ジャイアント、ハードライン、ジャーニー。ヒッリの声については、ジョーイ・テンペストとカヴァデイルの間、という表現が出た。

All Rise is Perfect Plan's debut, released by Frontiers on 20 April 2018. The band had formed in 2014 in Örnsköldsvik, in northern Sweden: Kent Hilli on vocals, Rolf Nordström on guitar, P-O Sedin on bass, Leif Ehlin on keyboards and Fredrik Forsberg on drums, all of them experienced players already. The order of events is worth noting. Recording finished in February 2017, and the deal came afterwards — they completed an album with nobody behind them, and only then found a label. What carried their name was the second track, "In and Out of Love." Released ahead of the album as a single, it made Hilli's voice an international subject overnight. After the light opening of "Bad City Woman," "Stone Cold Lover" and "Gone Too Far" both begin heavier, guitar colliding with Hammond. The choruses of "What Goes Around" and "Too Late" follow, then a song called simply "1985," and "Heaven in Your Eyes" closes all eleven. Reviewers reached for Survivor, Giant, Hardline and Journey. On Hilli's voice, one settled on a formula: somewhere between Joey Tempest and a Coverdale-like gruffness.
