『From Womb to Tomb』は、生から死までの時間を題材に、LILLIAN AXEらしいドラマ性を濃く打ち出したコンセプチュアルな作品だ。ヘヴィなギターの押し出しと繊細なメロディの落差が大きく、曲ごとの感情の振れ幅がアルバム全体の物語性を支えている。長いキャリアの中で磨かれた、バンドの成熟が結実した一枚である。 “Breathe”“The Golden Dragon”“Piercing the Veil”といった楽曲では、単なる懐古的ハード・ロックではなく、深い陰影と構成力を味わえる。“Migrating North”“Feelings of Absinthe”“From the Mountaintops”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。本作ではブライアン・C・ジョーンズが新たにヴォーカルを務めバンドに新鮮な息吹をもたらしており、生と死をめぐる壮大なコンセプトをバンドは持ち前の叙情性とドラマ性で見事に描き切っている。生と死という普遍的なテーマを、壮大なスケールで描き出している。ベテランとなってもなお、スティーヴ・ブレイズの創作意欲は少しも衰えていない、充実した一枚である。生と死という重厚なテーマに真摯に向き合った、円熟の一枚だ。

From Womb to Tomb is a conceptual work that, themed on the time from birth to death, strongly put forward characteristically LILLIAN AXE drama. The gap between the push of the heavy guitar and delicate melody is large, and the swing of emotion in each song supports the whole album’s narrative quality. It is a record in which the band’s maturity, polished over a long career, bore fruit. On “Breathe,” “The Golden Dragon” and “Piercing the Veil,” one can savor deep shadow and constructive power, not mere nostalgic hard rock. Songs like “I am Beyond,” “The Great Deception” and “Ascension” breathe the band’s full playing too. They draw out the universal theme of life and death on a grand scale. Even as veterans, Steve Blaze’s creative drive has not dimmed in the least — a full record.
