『Welcome to the Absurd Circus』は、LABYRINTHが得意とする哀愁あるメロディと、イタリアン・パワー・メタルらしい華やかなギターを、より変化に富んだ構成へと落とし込んだ第9作だ。タイトルどおり、どこか不穏で奇妙な空気をまといながら、サビには強い歌心がある。ベテランとなってもなお、その創造性は少しも衰えていない一枚である。 “The Absurd Circus”“Live Today”“Finally Free”といった楽曲では、速い曲でも単純な直線では終わらず、リズムや鍵盤、ギターの表情が細かく変わっていく。“One More Last Chance”“Den of Snakes”“Sleepwalker”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。パンデミック下で制作された本作は混沌とした世界を「不条理なサーカス」に見立てており、“As Long as It Lasts”“The Unexpected”“A Reason to Survive”のような楽曲にもバンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。ロベルト・ティランティの円熟した歌声と緻密なアレンジが、深みのある世界観を作り上げている。伝統的な様式を踏まえつつ、少しひねった展開も楽しめる。ドラマ性の高い、円熟期の充実作である。

Welcome to the Absurd Circus is the ninth album on which LABYRINTH distilled the melancholic melody they excel at and gorgeous, characteristically Italian-power-metal guitar into a more varied construction. As the title suggests, while wearing a somehow uneasy, strange air, the choruses have a strong melodic sense. Even as veterans, it is a record on which their creativity has not dimmed in the least. On “The Absurd Circus,” “Live Today” and “Finally Free,” even fast songs do not end in simple straight lines, with the expressions of rhythm, keyboards and guitar changing finely. Songs like “One More Last Chance,” “Den of Snakes” and “Sleepwalker” breathe the band’s full playing too. While based on traditional style, developments with a slight twist can also be enjoyed. It is a highly dramatic, full work of their mature period.
