Shifting Time

『Shifting Time』は、長い間隔を経て登場したGIANTの復帰作で、原メンバーのデヴィッド・ハフとマイク・ブリナーデロを核に、ジョン・ロスのギターとケント・ヒッリの歌声を迎えてメロディック・ハード・ロックの魅力を再提示する第5作だ。2022年1月にフロンティアーズから発表された。スウェーデンのパーフェクト・プランがGIANTの“Stay”をカヴァーしたことが縁となり、その実力派シンガー、ケント・ヒッリの加入につながった。 大きなコーラスと歌心のあるギターを丁寧に積み上げ、昔ながらのGIANTらしさを保ちながら新体制の力強さを示している。シングル“Never Die Young”ではダン・ハフがリード・ギターでゲスト参加し、往年の血脈を感じさせる。アレッサンドロ・デル・ヴェッキオがプロデュースとミックスを手がけ、静かなキーボードから始まる表題曲“Shifting Time”の劇的な導入や、“Let Our Love Win”“Highway of Love”“Standing Tall”“I Walk Alone”まで、粒ぞろいの楽曲が並ぶ。懐かしさだけでは終わらない、温度のある再出発を果たした一枚だ。

Shifting Time is Giant’s comeback after a long gap, the fifth album, re-presenting the appeal of melodic hard rock around original members David Huff and Mike Brignardello, joined by John Roth on guitar and Kent Hilli on vocals. Released on Frontiers in January 2022. Swedish band Perfect Plan’s cover of Giant’s “Stay” became the connection that led to their singer Kent Hilli joining. Carefully building big choruses and melodic guitar, it keeps the old Giant character while showing the new lineup’s strength. On the single “Never Die Young,” Dann Huff guests on lead guitar, evoking the old bloodline. Alessandro Del Vecchio handled production and mixing, and from the dramatic intro of the title track “Shifting Time,” which opens on quiet keyboards, to “Let Our Love Win,” “Highway of Love,” “Standing Tall” and “I Walk Alone,” consistently strong songs line up. A record that doesn’t end in nostalgia — a fresh start with real warmth.
