Master of Light

『Master of Light』は、FREEDOM CALLが持つ明るいメロディ、疾走感、前向きなコーラスを、さらに伸びやかに響かせた第9作だ。クリス・ベイ(ヴォーカル、ギター、キーボード)、ラルス・レットコヴィッツ(ギター)、イルカー・エルシン(ベース)、ラミー・アリ(ドラム)という安定した編成で制作された。プロデュースはクリス・ベイとシュテファン・エルンストが手掛け、バンド自身のスタジオで録音されている。 冒頭を飾る“Metal Is for Everyone”は、"メタルは万人のもの"という宣言そのもので、バンドの姿勢を鮮やかに表している。“Hammer of the Gods”“Rock the Nation”では、軽快なギターと大きく歌えるコーラスが炸裂する。重苦しいドラマよりも、メタルを聴く喜びそのものが大切にされているため、曲は素直でフックは強い。“Emerald Skies”“Riders in the Sky”のような楽曲では、壮大なメロディと軽快なリズムが交錯する。本作は、バンドの充実した演奏とプロダクションで、キャリア屈指の完成度を示している。日常を少し明るくしたい時に頼りたくなる、FREEDOM CALLらしい充実作である。

Master of Light is the ninth album, on which Freedom Call let its bright melody, drive and positive choruses ring out even more expansively. It was made with the stable lineup of Chris Bay (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Lars Rettkowitz (guitar), Ilker Ersin (bass) and Ramy Ali (drums). It was produced by Chris Bay and Stephan Ernst and recorded at the band's own studio. The opener "Metal Is for Everyone" is a declaration in itself — "metal is for everyone" — vividly expressing the band's stance. On "Hammer of the Gods" and "Rock the Nation," nimble guitar and big singalong choruses explode. Because the very joy of listening to metal is valued over heavy drama, the songs are honest and the hooks are strong. A strong, characteristic work you'll want to reach for when you want to brighten the everyday.
