『Beyond』は、FREEDOM CALLが光を感じさせるメロディ、スピード感のあるリズム、合唱したくなるコーラスを詰め込んだ作品だ。曲は明快で前向きだが、ギターの刻みとドラムの推進力がしっかりとメタルの重心を作っている。共同創設者であるドラマー、ダニエル・ツィマーマン在籍時の最後の作品でもある。 “Union of the Strong”“Knights of Taragon”“Beyond”といった楽曲では、聴き手を暗さから引き上げるような高揚感が、このバンドならではの魅力を放っている。“Heart of a Warrior”“Paladin”“Colours of Freedom”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。“Come on Home”“Rhythm of Light”“Follow Your Heart”のような楽曲にも、バンドの充実した演奏が息づいている。ツィマーマンの脱退後バンドは新たな体制で歩みを続けることになるキャリアの節目の作品でもあり、疾走感、高揚感、そして親しみやすいメロディという前向きなエネルギーが全編に満ちた充実作である。複雑な理屈よりも、メロディの楽しさと真っすぐな熱量を追求している。前向きなエネルギーを求める時に効く、充実した一枚だ。

Beyond is a work on which FREEDOM CALL packed in light-evoking melody, speedy rhythm and sing-along choruses. The songs are clear and positive, but the guitar chugging and drum drive firmly make a metal center of gravity. It is also the last work during the tenure of co-founder drummer Daniel Zimmermann. On “Union of the Strong,” “Knights of Taragon” and “Beyond,” an elation that lifts the listener from darkness radiates the band’s characteristic appeal. Songs like “Heart of a Warrior,” “Paladin” and “Colours of Freedom” breathe the band’s full playing too. Rather than complex logic, they pursue the fun of melody and straightforward heat. Effective when you want positive energy, it is a full record.
