Sultans of Sin

『Sultans of Sin』は、PAINやHYPOCRISYの首謀者として知られるピーター・タグテグレンをプロデューサーに迎えた第3作だ。制作にあたってはクリス・レイニー、そしてBACKYARD BABIESのニッケ・ボルグとの共作も行われ、楽曲の幅が一段と広がった。前2作で培ったキャッチーなハード・ロックを土台としながら、タグテグレンの手による硬質でタイトな音作りが加わり、後の転換を予感させる密度を獲得している。“Land of Broken Dreams”で彼らはメロディフェスティバレン2012にも出場した。 “Come Alive”“Raise Your Hands”は開放的なフックで幕を開け、“Land of Broken Dreams”は大きなメロディでアルバムの聴きどころを作る。“Bastards of Rock & Roll”のような楽曲には、バンドの遊び心と勢いが色濃く出ている。まだメロディック・ハード・ロックの領域にありながら、演奏の一体感と音の輪郭は明確に鋭さを増した。デビューからの成長を示すと同時に、次作『Renatus』での大きな飛躍への橋渡しとなる、過渡期の充実作である。

Sultans of Sin is the third album, produced by Peter Tägtgren, known as the mastermind of Pain and Hypocrisy. The writing included collaborations with Chris Laney and with Nicke Borg of Backyard Babies, broadening the range of the material. Built on the catchy hard rock developed across the first two albums, it gains density from Tägtgren's firm, tight production, hinting at the shift to come. With “Land of Broken Dreams” the band again appeared at Melodifestivalen 2012. “Come Alive” and “Raise Your Hands” open with expansive hooks, while “Land of Broken Dreams” creates a highlight with its big melody. Songs like “Bastards of Rock & Roll” show the band's playfulness and drive. Still within melodic hard rock, the ensemble feel and the outline of the sound grow clearly sharper. It shows the growth from the debut while serving as a bridge to the great leap of the next album Renatus — an accomplished transitional work.
