『Dysfunctional』は、ドン・ドッケン、ジョージ・リンチ、ジェフ・ピルソン、そしてミック・ブラウンという、あのクラシックな布陣が、再び揃い、DOKKENの、緊張感あふれるメロディック・メタルを、より現代的な、重い質感で鳴らした、充実の作品だ。一度は解散したバンドが、久々に再結集した、話題性の高い一枚である。リンチのギターは、相変わらず鋭く、ドン・ドッケンの歌の隙間に、複雑で深い陰影を、力強く作り出していく。 冒頭を飾る、キャッチーな人気曲“Too High to Fly”、そして“Inside Looking Out”のドラマ性、さらに“Hole in My Head”のような曲まで、収録曲は、いずれも聴き応えがある。“The Maze”、そして“Shadows of Life”のような曲も、作品の充実を伝えている。往年のメンバーによる、あの化学反応が、見事に蘇っている。 単なる過去の再現にとどまることなく、その楽曲には、90年代当時の、確かな重さと、深い暗さとが、色濃く反映されている一枚だ。再結成という、大きな出来事を、あくまで、演奏上の、確かな化学反応へと、力強く変えてみせている。DOKKENの、その復活を告げる、力強く聴き応えのある一枚と言える。バンドの再起が光る一枚だ。

Dysfunctional is a fulfilling work on which the classic lineup of Don Dokken, George Lynch, Jeff Pilson and Mick Brown gathered again, sounding Dokken’s tense melodic metal with a more modern, heavy feel. A record of high notoriety on which the once-disbanded band regathered after a long time. Lynch’s guitar, sharp as ever, powerfully creates complex, deep shading in the gaps of Don Dokken’s singing. From the catchy popular opener “Too High to Fly” and the drama of “Inside Looking Out” to a cut like “Hole in My Head,” every song is engaging, while cuts like “The Maze” and “Shadows of Life” convey the work’s fullness. The chemistry of the old members splendidly revives.
