Operation Phoenix

『Operation Phoenix』は、CROWNEが2023年1月27日にフロンティアーズから届けた第2作である。最大の変化は編成だ。前作でソロだけを弾いていたラヴ・マグヌッソンが、正式なリード・ギタリストとして加入した。2022年にはEP『Live from Studio Gröndahl』で五人編成の演奏を披露しており、企画から実体のあるバンドへ移っていく過程が、そのまま記録として残っている。プロデュースは再びヨナ・ティーが手がけた。レーベルは「彼らは自分自身を超えた」と謳い、実際に曲は前作より締まり、メタル寄りの色も濃くなっている。 全11曲・約45分。5分半を超える表題曲が幕を開け、“Champions”“In the Name of the Fallen”と続く構成は、AORの洗練とパワー・メタルの推進力を最初から並べて見せる。“Super Trooper”や“Victorious”の直進、“Juliette”の歌心、締めの“Northern Lights”まで、曲はどれも短く、フックへ最短距離で向かう。同じ年、バンドはスウェーデン・ロック・フェスティヴァルへ初めて出演した。書類上の寄せ集めではないことを、舞台の上で証明したことになる。

Operation Phoenix is the second album, delivered by Frontiers on 27 January 2023. The biggest change is the line-up: Love Magnusson, who had played only solos on the debut, joined as a full lead guitarist. The 2022 EP Live from Studio Gröndahl had already shown the five-piece playing together, so the shift from project to actual band is documented as it happened. Jona Tee produced again. The label claimed the band had bested themselves, and the songs are indeed tighter than the debut, with more metal in the mix. Eleven tracks run about forty-five minutes. The title track, past five and a half minutes, opens up, and the run into “Champions” and “In the Name of the Fallen” sets AOR polish and power-metal drive side by side from the start. Through the straight charge of “Super Trooper” and “Victorious,” the melodic feeling of “Juliette,” and the closing “Northern Lights,” every song is short and takes the shortest route to its hook. That same year the band made its Sweden Rock Festival debut — proving on a stage that this was not an assembly on paper.
