Queen of Time

『Queen of Time』は、AMORPHISがメロディック・デス、プログレッシヴ・メタル、フィンランド由来の陰影を、これまで以上に映画的なスケールへ広げた第13作だ。重く刻むギターと荒々しいヴォーカルが緊張を作り、そこへトミ・ヨーツセンの澄んだ歌声、オーケストラ、合唱、民族的な色彩が重なって、暗さの中に大きな余韻を残す。豪華な要素は多いが、曲の中心には常に覚えやすい旋律が置かれている。 “Amongst Stars”“The Bee”“Wrong Direction”などでは、激しさと哀愁、重厚さと親しみやすさが自然に入れ替わる。長い展開でも各場面が次のメロディを強く聞かせるために働き、装飾過多にはならない。ペッカ・カイノネンの詩世界を軸にした神話的な空気も、音楽の物語性を深めている。 繰り返し聴くほど、リフの奥で鳴る管弦やコーラス、そしてクリーン／グロウルの切り替えが緻密に配置されていることが分かる。壮麗でありながら人肌の温度を失わず、AMORPHISが長年育ててきた叙情性を大きく開花させた一枚である。

Queen of Time expands Amorphis’s blend of melodic death metal, progressive shape and Finnish shadow into its most cinematic scale to date. Heavy guitar patterns and harsh vocals create tension, while Tomi Joutsen’s clear singing, orchestra, choir and folk-colored details turn that darkness into something broad and lingering. The arrangements are rich, but memorable melody remains the center of every piece. “Amongst Stars,” “The Bee” and “Wrong Direction” move naturally between force and melancholy, weight and accessibility. Even when the songs take their time, each section is placed to strengthen the next melodic arrival rather than simply add decoration. The mythic atmosphere associated with Pekka Kainulainen’s lyric world deepens the sense of narrative. Repeated listens reveal the careful placement of strings, choral voices and the changing balance between clean singing and growls. Grand but never cold, Queen of Time is a major statement of Amorphis’s long-developed lyricism.
