Liner Notes
The Purple Album is the twelfth album, on which Whitesnake reinterpreted the songs of the Deep Purple era with a present-day weighty guitar sound and mature vocals. It was made with the lineup of David Coverdale (vocals), Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra (guitar), Michael Devin (bass) and Tommy Aldridge (drums). It revives for today, with deep respect, the classics of the Mk III / Mk IV era that Coverdale once sang.
On songs like "Burn," "Mistreated" and "Stormbringer," while respecting the bluesy frame of the originals, the playing is thicker and the choruses resonate with greater expanse. Not mere nostalgia, there is a stance of rereading the songs through experience as a singer and the band's present position. It gives those who know the old songs a new angle, and those touching them for the first time a powerful entrance. A record that sounds the legacy of classic rock in a contemporary way, crystallizing Coverdale's respect for his own roots.
