LINER NOTES
LANGUAGE
Morgoth Tales came out on 21 July 2023 on Century Media, with Sony Records International issuing the Japanese edition on 23 July as SICP-6520.
It marks forty years of the band: one song from each era of their history, re-recorded by the current line-up. The band's own listing gives the source of every one — "Condemned to the Gallows" from the Metal Massacre V compilation of 1984, "Thrashing Rage" from Rrroooaaarrr, "Killing Technology" from the 1987 album of that name, "Macrosolutions to Megaproblems" from Dimension Hatross, "Pre-Ignition" from Nothingface, "Nuage Fractal" from Angel Rat, "Fix My Heart" from The Outer Limits, "Rise" from Phobos and "Rebel Robot" from the 2003 album Voivod.
Eric Forrest, who sang on Phobos, guests on "Rise", and Jason Newsted, who played bass in 2003, guests on "Rebel Robot". The tenth track, the title song, is new.
The international pressing adds one more, closing with a cover of Public Image Ltd's "Home", written by John Lydon and Bill Laswell. The Japanese edition runs to fourteen, adding three Ultraman themes. The eleven listed here are the international pressing's.
