Liner Notes
Vixen is the debut album by the four-piece Jan Kuehnemund founded in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1980, released on 31 August 1988. After the move to Los Angeles in 1985 the “classic lineup” settled: Janet Gardner (vocals, rhythm guitar), Kuehnemund (lead guitar), Share Pedersen (bass) and Roxy Petrucci (drums). Issued by EMI Manhattan, it reached No. 41 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the RIAA in February 1989.
The opener “Edge of a Broken Heart” was written by Richard Marx and Fee Waybill, with Marx himself producing and playing keyboards; it climbed to No. 26 in the US. The lead guitar on that track was played by Michael Landau. The ballad “Cryin'” reached No. 22. Jeff Paris had a hand in “Cryin',” “One Night Alone” and “Charmed Life,” and Vivian Campbell played acoustic guitar on “Desperate.” The band opened for Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions and Bon Jovi, and Rolling Stone placed the record at No. 43 on its list of the 50 Greatest Hair Metal Albums of All Time.
